Global Glassworks
Ben Birney has long been a student of art, science, religion and traveling the world to put his study into greater perspective. His interest in glass came naturally as a child, intrigued by its inherent beauty. His parents, David and Dianne Birney, always provided Ben encouragement to pursue his vision, and were the facilitators in starting up what would be a life long career in glass. Only 18 years old at the time, Ben discovered a great love for the art and all it had to offer. Likewise he found he had a special skill for precision and detail work which was noticed and appreciated by all. With the inspired teachings of Alex Vicknair (Michigan) and Brian Sweeterman (Oregon) Ben was able to excel quickly in the field and soon became recognized in the larger glass community. Fast forward two years. Ben is now firmly established in an ever-growing community, constantly developing many of his own unique products, necessitating him to blow glass full time in order to keep up with high demand. Ben was raised an international traveler and still travels regularly for education and inspiration. Travel experience and worldly perspective is what inspired the name Global Glassworks. Almost a decade later, Ben continues to develop innovative, one-of-a-kind products and continues his education in the art by attending glassblowing courses with some of the best artists around the world. Ben works out of his home in Mason, Michigan, creating beautiful art work for the world to enjoy.
