The vases in my Paperweight series are created with multiple vivid colors of glass applied to the base color bubble. I mix the colors into an abstract pattern that suits my fancy, then add a thick layer of clear glass to magnify and intensify the design. Each piece is very heavy, with the feel and effect of a large glass paperweight, but shaped as a vase or bowl. For more images see http://www.richglassstudio.com

When I first saw a glass blower working at a Renaissance Festival in Maryland, I knew this would be my life. At sixteen I began my art education at the Corcoran Institute, then attended the California College of Arts and Crafts. While in the Bay area I also worked as an assistant to several glass artists and designers, gaining experience in a wide variety of techniques. I traveled to Murano, Italy to study the techniques of present day glass masters as well as the history of glass blowing. Later I was privileged to study art with a master of painting, Professor Silvio Loffredo of The Florence Academy of Art.
My European journey in glass art then took me to England to learn innovative British glass blowing techniques at the renowned International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill.
Returning to the US in 1994, I designed and built my own glass studio in Portland, Oregon, where I am able to pursue my passion full-time. I strive to share my love of glass with my apprentices and students, and to create a variety of designs that bring beauty, color and joy to glass art lovers.
