My current work is an exploration of change, time, and process. I’ve always thought of glass as a matrix of the space-time-heat continuum. Its form is a record of a series of events that happened to it along its formation, like strata within the earth’s crust. The invisible strata within the glass all move as one, but at different rates depending on location and temperature. Sometimes they flow quickly, sometimes slowly, but always together like an orchestra following the conductor with heat as the tempo. I draw inspiration from the natural world, and try to capture the universal flow that binds everything. Using traditional Italian techniques, modern developments in flameworked borosilicate glass, and a mix of my own invented techniques, I’m trying to draw from and acknowledge the past, represent the present, and bridge the future in the flow of change.

These are explorations of the human form. glass is a seductive material..... hence the sirens with tails.

This gallery showcases some of my most detailed work. i began doing the cage cups in 2000 as an experiment to use up poorly blown goblets, (which there were many) as i was trying to learn traditional venetian techniques both in the hot shop and at the torch. the forms are first blown, with the holes picked out later. somtimes i drop a new hot bubble back in to the "cage" and open them up together, with the holes refilled. i let the random assortment of holes determine the details, and keep only the original outline as the last reference point to a classic form. i take great pride in blowing them as perfectly and thinnly as possible, only to "wreck" a perfectly good cup with holes later. this has become one of my unique signature styles, which i think works well to combine my love of italian glass traditions and natural forms

I've been making these hollow marbles since 2001. they're challenging and unique, and they let me refine inside out patterns and techniques through the perfection of a sphere. i like the reaction i get from collectors when they pick up the big ones.... a puzzled and confused look... "they're so light!". there are no holes nor dimples, and the marbles are sealed hot. they are not fragile like christmas ornaments. the wall thickness is usually about 3/16". every now and then i'll get one with neutral bouyancy. they neither float or sink!

these are smaller gallery pieces. i've been experimenting with the process of tying glass knots, as well as filling in my cage cups with hot gathers to fill in the holes, then reforming the cup again

Selected photos from my portfolio. Includes some earlier ceramic work (97) with my first experimentations in glass... it's addicting, now it's all glass. I like to work on the larger size. most pieces are in the 15" range, with the mantis and scarab being the largest, at 24". click on my name above for more galleries, and thanks for looking
