I went to Murano in Nov/Dec to study advanced lampworking techniques in soda-lime glass - an effort to get off the mandrel and attempt larger pieces so I could try to make a few botanical chandeliers. Piddled around for a couple of months and just got brave enough to try attaching petals to a calyx and/or stem, which can be quite exciting with soda-lime glass. (As Lucio Bubacco says, "maybe big essplosion, like bomb." The kind of thing that makes you want to fire up the torch!) The plan was to post some glass lilies for Easter; got carried away with colors, instead of pristine white - and then realized (at Lowe's) that Easter lilies are shaped more like an elongated tube than an oriental lily --oops, after I'd made the petals. The real exitement was to come when putting everything together - no explosions, but lots of tragedy, nonetheless. Broke two trying to attach leaves, so thought I'd post these, unfinished, before more mishaps. First attempt at multiple attachments.
