Copper Bowl

Copper Bowl

The bowl is a clear bowl, covered in a circuit writing pen thats basically silver pigment and a binder. The silver makes the surface of the glass conductive so that an electric current can pass through in the process of electroplating. The electroplating solution is made up of hydrochloric acid, copper sulfate, and distilled water. I then sprayed more chemicals to patina the copper to an antique blue green.

Crinoline Mushroom

Crinoline Mushroom

Dictaphone's indusiata or Veil Mushroom

A showy species from the rainforest, this pale brown mushroom has a lacy veil which hangs down from the steeply sloped cap and reaches almost to the level of the soil. It smells awful but the flies don't mind.

I made this last summer and never got a chance to get some good shots of it. I have some of the images I came across while researching this mushroom. During this time period I did not have a kiln at my temporary studio so I had to flame anneal. Mickelson showed me the webbing tech and I became absorbed with it. Some of the other work from the same time period is shown. All clear and clear sandblasted. The mushroom is about 20 inches tall and the bowl is 24 inches wide at the top.

interesting...
i've been trying to order glass pens which are out of stock, but tell me more about the powder/ water method...i painstakingly scrape and move the grains around when they're still wet with glue. i know, i'm all self taught thus far with glass. i'm by white rock...close to the CAC.
