Through the filter of my own cultural history juxtaposed with iconic objects of everyday life, my work questions the reality in which we live, as well as the significance of seemingly mundane, everyday objects to individual identity. Through the hybridization of pop culture icons and the technical creativity of Venetian-inspired glass, a dialogue is created that addresses both my interest in glass as a craft and my interest in the significance of culture to individual identity.
The combination of the aesthetics of craft, perceived reality, and icons of popular culture, with my own artistic and cultural interests has created compositions that situate the individual within the context of complex, modern society. Each construction is a hybridized manifestation of my artistic interest in glass as a craft with my interest in the role of culture upon individuality. Each of my objects is an artistic construction that is conceptually based, and socio-functionally inspired.
