These works are a follow-up to some previous work I posted. I have spent a few years now working with bird forms, which have eventually evolved into these. I am interested in finding forms that illude to the subject matter without being too literal.

Layout Series

Layout Series

My vessels are primarily about form and relating pattern to it. I have used and adjusted some of the design ideals of the Arts and Crafts movement to create forms that are both simple and elegant. My patterned vessels are designed to accentuate the forms. I employ simple lines and patterns that are created specifically for each form, and I use a matte finish to make the glass appear more like stone, and to take away from the typical allure of clear glass.

Mind and Form

This series started with the piece Romanian Muse which was based off a peice by Constantin Brancusi called Sleeping Muse. The body consists of different forms that all find a line between eggs and human heads. I use the egg as a reference to new life, and the head as a humanizing characteristic for the form. The patterns used stay in line with my aesthetic tendencies, but are used to accentuate the form and abstract features of the head. All the pieces are around 10"-15" and are sandcarved glass.
