Emmett Hollander was born in Bloomington, Indiana. Mr. Hollander moved to Seattle Washington in 1992. Emmett first became interested in glass because of his jewelry work involving African trade beads. This led him to Pratt Fine Arts in Seattle, where he enrolled in James Minson’s beginning flameworking class in September 1993. Working with glass quickly became a burning passion for Emmett and he has continued his study of glass over the past the last 10 years. His studies have included working and taking classes from master glass blowers and artists Janice Miltenberger, Jean Amann, Don Niblack, Brian Kerkvliet, Lucio Bubacco and John Kobuki.
Currently Emmett resides in Monroe, Washington, where he peruses his obsession for glass, teaches classes on many aspects of flameworking, and is expanding his studio. Working with borosilicate is Emmett’s preferred medium.
