Working in glass comes on the heels of a few other media I have been involved in over my lifetime. It seems to be the greatest and most rewarding challenge yet, to work with molten glass, metals, reactive glasses and frits. There is the hope here of creating something unusual, beautiful and desirable..and it is probably less than two inches in any direction! If only we could always be happy with just a tiny treasure to hold our attention and devotion. My work has evolved over just a year and a half. I work many hours at a time four days weekly and often in the evenings, or I study whatever resources I can find. I usually create jewelry from my beads and only recently have been making beads that stand on their own merit...perhaps another creative person will complete their voyages for them!

The orchid glass beads are stunning with amber glass. The Kalera shaped amber beads are heavily dotted with clear glass to make them absolutely sparkle in the light.

This detail of the aqua necklace shows the delicate winding of sparkly green aventurine cane in double strands through the pale aqua beads. The cane changed to color of the beads to a richer aqua.

Copper and silver leaf were cooked extra long to give a clear hollow bead the look of mossy stone. Then the bead was shaped into a heart, given a loop for hanging and pulled off its blowpipe.

These sensuous roses are in Moretti glass with rubino ribbon laid on to the base of the bead. Green leaves and little white flowers float within it, and the roses look like they are about to dissolve in their pinkness.

These focal beads have evolved from Gaffer canes, which can give a bead an ethereal feeling from within. Strands of colors float under the surface of the bead. I also used slices of the canes as murrini, melting them in and directing them to look like flowers, sea anenomes and feathery forms on the surface. These murrini often have a film of aventurine gold under them so that as the bead turns in the light it gives off unexpected sparkle.
