In the fall of 2006 I went to Hamburg Germany to study for five days with Diana East and Dora Schubert. They taught us how to make the beautiful and mysterious floral cane murinni that I have encorporated into my latest beads. And Dora generously shared her flat lapidary machine so that we could learn to shape our beads....I love making my focals into contemporary looking discs! I learned some things about reactive glass too, as you will see in some of the hearts I am showing here. So enjoy these new works from me...about time I got new things in here!

Working in glass comes on the heels of a few other media I have been involved in over my lifetime. It seems to be the greatest and most rewarding challenge yet, to work with molten glass, metals, reactive glasses and frits. There is the hope here of creating something unusual, beautiful and desirable..and it is probably less than two inches in any direction! If only we could always be happy with just a tiny treasure to hold our attention and devotion. My work has evolved over just a year and a half. I work many hours at a time four days weekly and often in the evenings, or I study whatever resources I can find. I usually create jewelry from my beads and only recently have been making beads that stand on their own merit...perhaps another creative person will complete their voyages for them!

I don't know anyone who is not drawn to sea shells. They conjure the vast oceans of the world, little homes for sea creatures, and carry the sound of the sea for all to hear. On this page I am showing some of the shells I have created, going against the law of nature that says we cannot duplicate it...and of course, I did not succeed in duplicating natural shells! I was intrigued by the possibility of making shells of hollow lampworked beads. I show one white shell with amber frits that I made early on. But what is the fun of being semi-realistic? The rest of the shells in this group are a lot more fun to make and to look at! Some are actual beads, some are tiny sculptures. All are between 1 1/4 and 2 1/2 inches long.
