Here is a technique that I learned at the Robert Mickelsen Graal Workshop (pics in the Events Section) in 2005. This techniques combines my past in Graphic Design and my present obsession, Glassblowing, together into one technique. Sty tuned for new developments!

Here is a new series of designs I've been playing around with. Most of these marbles remind me of landscape; the moon, a starry sky, swirling water...More to come, this was just the first few. I have something in particular I am going for, so we'll see if I can achieve it.

This new series of surface worked designs recently debuted at the Las Vegas Marble show. Unfortunately a great majority of them sold before I could get pictures. The marbles appear very similar to the twisted windows and other similar bright and contrasting designs I have been working with lately, however these designs completely cover the surface leaving no room for optical trickery, hence the title "sans-optics"

Here are some pictures of marbles with Uranium Glass. Vaseline glass, UV glass or sometimes just U-glass, as it's commonly called, yields a cool neon green under the blacklight. It is usually clear or sightly yellow in regular light depending on the thickness. Thanks to Josh Z for coming through with the UV glass hook-up!

Nathan Miers • Glass Artist and Craftsman
Nathan has spent the last few years traveling from coast to coast in search of new inspirations for his work. Coming from a graphic arts background he was searching for a more expressive medium for his art. A few years back he had the chance to play with molten glass, instantly realizing that he found a new medium with infinite possibilities for artistic expression. Nathan's style uses colors that represent emotion. Color relationships that play on core human emotions such as Anxiety, Fear, Surprise, Disgust, Sadness and Happiness.
