Hello, my name is Alex Ubatuba. I've been flameworking since Febuary 2001, and have been working hot glass on a regular basis at Prodigy Glassworks since summer 2002. This is some of my work that I would like to show everyone, and I will continue to post picks from now on to show the progession of some of these ideas. If you are reading this now, Thank You for taking the time to look at my work.

I made this piece during my visit to Penland for the spring concentration. Some of us from the class took a drum making class at the end. We strung them up and got help putting on the skins. They sound great! Thanks go out to Martin, Lance and Billy for hooking this up!!!

These are pictures of demo's from the Penland 2007 spring concentration with Martin Janecky. Top notch work and instructor, top notch class with awesome people, and a great experience for two months. You guys and ladies from Penland rock. If anyone is looking for a badass sculpture/hotglass class to take this summer, make sure it's one of Martin's, you will not regret it. I know Eugene Glass School has a spot or two...

Have spent some time the past week 1 1/2 focused on murrini. This is my first attempt at makeing furnace murrini. The result of well spent time. Thank you Animal!
10/05 - discontinued - *only a handful of these were made, i created these pieces souly to execute techniques that i learned from James Nowak at Corning. I am currently working on my own design that would be unique to myself. I will post a new style of a pick-up piece later this Fall.

This was a week long class at Penland with Paul Stankard and Luccio Bubacco. The class was a combination of the flame shop with the hot glass shop, we would lampwork components, and then cast over them in a graphite mold. I had a great time, you had to look at the class with an experimental attitude, i think people had a lot of fun with it. There were 22 people in the class, i left meeting some really cool people. These are some pictures of the casting process, some of Luccio and Paul's work, and miscellaneous photos. Sorry, some of the are turned sideways, I don't have photo shop but i will fix when i can. enjoy
