1st Flower Marble Attempts

1st Flower Marble Attempts

I love to make flower implosion pendants and at the urging of Joe who pushes me to try new things, I made a couple of flower marbles. They are not nearly as big as any of his. To be sure I wouldn't win with these shooters but hey nobody's going to be playing marbles with my babies anyway:)

1st Marble Attempts

Here is some of Joe's first marbles, of course, he is his own worst critique. He thinks they need to go to the fugly pile but I think they turned out great.

2nd Marble Attempt

Wow! Here is Joe's 2nd attempt at marbles. This one is a monster compared to the only one I've made. I've also put up a picture of my itty bitty one next to his monster, and also to show you the size of it I compared it to a dime.

A Big Marble 1.67"

A Big Marble 1.67"

I bit off more than I could chew this time! When I started this marble I never expected it to get so big. I was only aiming for a small one with planets, Welllll I had to give it to Joe who added more glass to cover the planets and melt it in, my torch ( Lynx )just wasn't getting hot enough to melt it all in, Although I was doing a lot of sweating for sure. After Joe added and melted it all in . I finished the back design. I don't think I will make many this size, unless Joe is waiting with a bigger flame to help me.( Phantom )

A fox, A deer, A dog.

A fox, A deer, A dog.

I was asked if I could make a fox. Since I had never attempted such a critter I said I would give it a try. Well out of my try, I ended up with a fox, which to me looked a lot like a deer, so then I tried to make a deer, added a red nose to one of them, then I ended up with a dog, now where the dog came from is anyone's guess, but he made himself known and just wouldn't go away. So here they all are, pics a little fuzzy. Will try to get better ones up soon.

All Kinds Of Beads

All Kinds Of Beads

I've tried to make round beads and don't get me wrong I can, but I have to work really hard to make a round one! Bicones really do have a mind of their own, they just make themselves while I hold the mandrel, or so it seems. So most of the round beads Joe makes, "He's an all a Round kind of guy." Me I make alot more bicones, "hmmmm" "Whats that say about Me I wonder!" :)

Just playing with some color combo's. Used a little copper too, trying to figure that out. Yeah I used a copper penny on my first try, not knowing you had to use one dated 1945 or before. Had kind of a volcano effect going, what with fire and smoke inside erupting out just like a real one. Now that was WILD. Don't try this at home folks.

We went trucking up to NY and took a class with Chris and Jackie Rice. This class was awesome, everything that we had hoped it would be. We learned new techniques and tweaked some old ones. They are truely great people with the imagination that makes them great artists. No question was too crazy or strange to them, if we had a question they were there, willing to answer it or better yet show us. Thanks Chris and Jackie for one more awesome adventure that we can add to this strange trip that we are taking into the glass world.
