my first workshop I ever took was from Robert Mickelsen. In this workshop he made a comment about technique, while technique is valuable it can also hold you back from true expression. By concentrating too much on technique you in essence handcuff yourself to that technique. In the cage series I am trying to express a multitude of feelings and emotions by concentrating on design and simplicity in sculpture. I have always felt confined either in my studio or in everyday life as an artist, these pieces arean attempt to express that feeling of confignment and eventual release of expression.

this one was fun, it was the first time I added color to the cage. It is growing on me , I don't know if its too blue though! It is on display at Galleria Di Vetro in New Smyrna beach Florida.

This is my new favorite in the series, It was donated to an auction at Habatat Gallery in Boca Raton Florida. The auction benefited the University of Miamis glass department. It sold in the live auction for well over retail and it was an amazing experience.
p.s. sorry for the borderline pictures, we figured out our diffusers and lights after I took all these pictures!

The spring cages are a sign of blooming and rebirth, the tallest of the cages they seem to reach for the sky.

The winter cages are on the blue, icy side of the color spectrum. I have always been drawn to these shades of blue, soothing and frigid.
