The conference was a great time and a huge success. I purchased many new tools for me and my students to use. I also spoke with many of my suppliers about new and improved materials. The lectures and demos were all great. As well as, the shows and auctions. Click on this page for a brief overview of the conference.

If we can get insurance and close, this may be the newest glass studio in New Orleans. I have already gotten some big names to commit to future classes. It is zoned for neighborhood business and already up to code for a lampworking studio. Just a little ventillation and lighting needed. Stay tuned for updates on the new home of Andrew Jackson Pollack Designs.

Andrew Jackson Pollack Designs, New Orleans’ newest public glass studio, is moving to its permanent location. The new studio is at 4811 Tchoupitoulas Street in, beautiful, Uptown New Orleans. I hope that everyone will be able to visit the new home, which will be open for visitors after the New Year. The Grand Opening was the day before Jazz Fest - April 2007. There was food, drinks, people, live music, and glass demonstrations, among other things. Now, the studio is open Monday – Friday by appointment. Also, for glass classes on various weekends. These are all posted on this site, below. Please check the website or call me to find out about ordering time or availability of specific items. Contact me with any questions and for further updates. And, thanks to everyone who is playing a part in the next chapter of New Orleans history.

Jazz Fest 2006 went off with out a hitch and was a blast for everyone who attended. I went four out of the six days, and we participated in a benefit and other events the week in between the festival weekends. We ate crawfish monica, crawfish bread, boiled crawfish, gumbo, soft-shelled crab po-boys, and too many other things to name them all. I saw great art - all of the artists I spoke with said that it was their best year ever, as people wanted to take a part of New Orleans home with them to tell the story that they came, they saw, they helped us to conquor.
Weather could not have been better. The few moments of rain, just helped to cool us off and the rest of the time the clouds did that job. The key is to be ready to step into either the Jazz or the Gospel tent in the event of rain, or just get wet. I hope that everyone who did not make it this year will put it on their calendars for next year. It was a very important event for the rebirth of the city and I think that it exceeded everyone's

This was a great class and I got my first experince as a TA at Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC. Click here for more photos of Penland 2005. They have since done major work on the lampworking studio, installing snorkle vent tubes and more kilns by each pair of workstations.
The picture shown is our class colaboration, components made by the students, preheated by the kiln and myself, and handed off to Brian to assemble. The tree is hollow and the components are all sculpted. I included a fairy on a mushroom and the medallion reflection pond on the front ground. The base is a frosted piece of plate glass with the class name and all of the students names sandblasted and engraved on it. It went for $400 at the Penland auction and was later traded to a student from the class who will appreciate it fully. He was in tears over the deal he got. Cheers.

Here are some action shots and images of some pieces made while assisting Brian Kerkvliet at Red Deer College in Alberta, Canada. I was very fortunate that Brian invited me along for this experience. It was an amazing opportunity to work and experiment and socialize in beautiful Red Deer. I flew in and out of Calgary and can't wait to go back and spend some time in this beautiful area of our neighboring country. Thanks, Brian - for being a great mentor and friend. This is the best and only way I have found to learn how to play with glass. By working and immersing yourself in a challenging environment, such as this. Thanks to the students and studio techs, as well. Everyone grew by leaps and bounds.

New Orleans is back rocking and rolling. Check out these few photos from Carnival 2006. We got to see a few parades with beautiful floats and booming marching bands. The numbers did not appear to be down, to us. I think that people were amazed at the turnout. It did more to lift the spirits, of a race of people who can't be broken, than anything else since the hurricane. New Orleans is coming back!...very slowly. But don't get too excited, there is still much to be done or certain areas may never return.
This photo is of my mardi gras bead necklace from Fat Tuesday. It is made up of many of my demos from beadmaking classes over the last few years. It weighed about a pound, and was 18" long, doubled over. There should be photos, if you click here, of me wearing it with my cowboy hat and purple tux/zoot suit. "All on a Mardi Gras day...."

Here are some photos of New Orleans. It was pretty bad. It felt kind of like a ghost town, but with lots of police and military and service vehicles. Also, a list of the companies that helped me out when I needed most, including CERF, Dichroic Alchemy, Eugene Rain, and Glasscraft, to name a few.

This was a great workshop to be a part of at Penland 2002. I was a work study student and got to take Roger's class and hand with my buddies Claire and Anthony. This is shortly before they moved up to the Penland area to live at the Energy Exchange.

In the first studio ever, overlooking Napoleon Ave./Prytania, in New Orleans. This was a second-floor, 1000 sq.ft., one bedroom apartment. I went through many a box fan, and was surprised that my torch never caught the eyes of the local police or fire.

This holiday season I will be featuring an assortment of Candelabras and Judaic items. Many of my menorahs are already sold, but my designs are standardized and I can turn around an order in about 1-2 weeks, this time of year. Things can get busy quickly, though. So, place your orders now.
Sincerely,
Andrew Jackson Pollack

Wow!
Andrew - I just went to your website and was blown away by your bio! You're so lucky to be working with glass for a living, not to mention teaching it to boot. I love to read about people like you who find something they love and stick with it!
