"To me glass is about light. The reason that I have found glass so attractive as a medium is due to its unique interactions with light. Glass can be transparent, translucent, it can bend light, magnify images, reflect light, refract light, not to mention the amazing colors of glass and their unique light reactive properties. I find a sphere of glass to be a perfect vehicle for playing with all these properties that I love so much. I can explore the optical properties of the lenses of a sphere and the amazing tricks of depth of field that can create. I can work with mulitple layers of translucency and transparence. It's that inner world, that untouchable but visible universe inside the sphere that makes glass spheres such a unique sculptural phenomenon." ---Please enjoy these pictures and look below for a link to Aaron's website for more information about him and availability of his work.

These are inspired by my love of snorkelling (something I rarely get to do), and gazing into my friend's coral reef tanks. They are similar to the coral elements that I use in my Undersea Discovery Marbles but presented in a different manner. The organic and coarse textures of the coral encased in the polished, perfect, almost wet sphere of clear glass is a juxtaposition that fascinates me.

This is an experimental glass installation that I did for a recent art show called Lollypops and Handgrenades. Kevin Engleman assisted me on this live demo.
I had been thinking for a long time about an installation that could only be made in place and was too delicate to ever move and the theme of this show seemed to fit with that idea so I started brainstorming what form this project might take on. I really wanted to do this for the first time the night of the show because I was interested in displaying to my best ability all the aspects of the glass including its fickle nature. So, with my goal being a good demonstration of the nature of glass and the physics that rule my world of working with glass, I let those factors determine the form of the piece more than anything else, including aesthetics. The project inspired me and I think there will be more to come from these ideas. Kevin told me it inspired him also.
I've included some pictures of other work that was in the show.

Historically, pressed glass came about as a less expensive alternative to hand blown glass. I developed these pressed glass (and unpressed glass) pendants for the same reason. I had been pushing myself to create more complex, intricate, and technically difficult pieces especially in the undersea discovery seriese and soon found that none of my friends could afford to buy my glass anymore. I enjoy making these and intend to keep them beautiful, one of a kind, and affordable. A hand made alternative to fused glass pendants which seem a bit ubiquitous and factory produced lately.

A series of spheres that contain strange underwater worlds. I call them discovery because if you search you will find hidden things in the depths and darkness. I enjoy this process of discovery that allows the marbles to continue to hold interest long after first viewing but it is this same quality that makes these impossible to photograph. They look much better in the hand than through the lense.
