Yasmin Sivan's Gallery

Posted by Yasmin Sivan on 6/23/2005
Working with glass, for me, is a search for my own limits, the limits of my aesthetic paradigm.
I found that I was very interested in keeping aesthetics in the centre of my work and playing with it, and playing with different techniques while ideas and deeper emotional contents are revealing themselves in this process.
I am charmed and inspired by the powerful beauty of natural forms and ancient artifacts; I wanted my glass to look as if it was dug from the bottom of the earth.
In the process, I kept playing with colors and forms, patterns and textures trying different combinations,
Could glass look like a flower? Could it look like a rock?
Can I create my own landscape out of glass?

Please notice, Some of the Jewelry shown are my very first works. The newest are first three galleries.

From Desert to the sea

From Desert to the sea

From desert to the sea

This work has emerged from a small pile of stones I have gathered in the Arava desert. They where part of the powerful primal landscape that I grew up in.
I have collected these stones so that I will have a piece of this pure and peaceful existence in the big city.
The stones were created ages before man kind even existed, as giant rocks in the bottom of an ancient sea.
They were broken to stone-pieces in the flowing water of streams that dried out ages ago,
And that's where I found them, on a shore that became a desert.
The desert stones had led me to the sea.
