We have been putting together a demo for the Friday night party at the GAS conference. "Lampwork through the Ages" is the theme. We have a bellow oil lamp from Carmen Lozar and I have been working with Dudley Giberson on an ancient "volcano" furnace.Other demos by Fred Birkhill, Shane Fero, Matt Eskuche, Lewis Wilson and Tim Lindemann. Big props to Dudley for all his years of intense research and unending vision. This furnace project wouldn't have happened without him.

Boxfan Jr and Sr I was demoing at a friends gallery, Vetro Art Glass,in Grapevine, TX. The owner, David Gappa, asked my five year old if he wanted to blow a bubble. Trey said "Let's do this man!!!" No lie, he never hesitated. He listened and moved around me while I gathered and marvered, etc. The pictures say the rest. The crowd was 75-100 folks and he rocked. They went wild for him. I am a proud papa. I will have to talk to him about proper footware(and I gave up my shades to a collector for the demo).
Thanks for checking this out! Glass is good!!!

Jen and I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers concerning our daughter, Alexandra. She had her aftercare appointment this week and everything is fine(Thank God). We would appreciate spreading the good word to those concerned. I know that the love and support from the community was felt by us. Here are a couple of pics of the kids a few days after Ally was released from the hospital. As you might expect, the "Women's Issue" has been delayed. We are back on track, but will not make our deadline. Thanks for your patience concerning The Flow. Please call with any questions.
Much love,
Boxfan

I used multiple encalmos, graal and powders to try to achieve a layered, desert effect. The skull stopper is hollow, so the piece wouldn't be top heavy. The graal stem symbols are from cave drawings. approximately 18" tall. This piece was juried for the 1st All Texas Glass Exhibit at the Galveston Arts Center March 5 thru April 17th. www.galvestonartcent...

This is a 2 3/4" boro marble I made for GAS conference. The pics aren't the greatest, but it sld before I could get nice shots. 6 vortexes, 8 mountain milli snaps and more twisted dots than I care to admit. 7 1/2 hours worth of torch time(yeah I know I'm slow). Thanks for checking it out. Peace

This goblet was inspired by the Chauvet Pont D'Arc caves in France where there are cave drawings over 30,000 years old. This particular goblets inspiration cane from the Brunell cave where the calcized skull of an ibex was found with mastadon tusks. Goblet is 14 inches tall. Thanks for looking, boxfan

Glass found Menzies in 1998, after a brief stint searching for his future mentor, Bob Snodgrass in Eugene, OR. The next eighteen months were spent moving between Eugene and Seattle, honing technique while working as a production flameworker, before moving back to Texas.
Menzies found expression and fascination in the art of the marble. The optical & magnification qualities of borosilicate glass demands great attention to detail.
Wil teaches flameworking workshops around the world as well as his studio in rural East Texas. He and his wife also publish The Flow, a journal dedicated to the art and craft of flameworking.
