Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis

This was my first large piece after my first class. It measures 22 x 40 inches and was my first copper foil piece.

Light of Ages

Light of Ages

Test piece from a class in Seattle. Our teacher gave each student the choice of either a bush in the corner of the small piece or a skeleton. I choose drawing a skeleton for detail and even with a dark subject the assignment was fun!

Slump gone bad....

Slump gone bad....

I tried slumping over a clay pot.... and quickly learned that the shrinkage rate of glass compared to the pot did NOT work. Here's the results as you can see. I did learn that kiln wash (three coats) works wonderfully. Oh, I also learned that I needed a small hole in the pot to allow the hot air to escape... that's why I got the bubble.

Slumped Heart

Slumped Heart

This was slumped over 1/8" high fire paper cut-out of a heart shape. It was fired in a hot box in just a couple of hours.

The Branch...

The Branch...

This is from a sketch I did the night before class in my hotel room.

The leaves are painted for depth then fired before leading into the piece.

The picture measures 18 x 20 inches.

Work in Progress...

This has been a work in progress... The leaves of the tree are painted for detail. I still have more leading to do then framing.

I have been newly introduced to glass fusing and slumping. The summer of 2003 I took a "Medieval Stained Glass Class". It was one week from 8:00 in the morning to however long we wanted to work each night. I had never done stained glass and found it captivating. From the class I took with me basic stained glass knowledge and glass painting techniques but more than that, a deep interest of glass art. In the past 18 months I found classes on the internet from Portland, to Everett and even Nelson, B.C.

I am currently experimenting with slumping and fusing. I love the different effect one can achieve when heating glass correctly. I have learned and not everything comes out well but from that I have learned. What fun, it's like Christmas everytime I open the kiln.

I’ve included some of my photos. I hope you enjoy.
