The Toucan Project, designed and executed by Ron Wood and Christian Karl Janssen. Toucan: Glass Entry, 22' by 11.5' by 1.24" thick; Toucan Tooth, Glass gate; and Toucan Bill, Three aviary pocket doors.
Shadows enliven this heavy glass gate, as seen here with fronds and Ron Wood. Two and one quarter inches thick, this pivoting barrier establishes interactive tone forexperiences to come.
Glazers strap the Toucan door for craning. The optically tuned glass is liquid ice. Pictured: the Toucan door, measuring 7.5' by 11.0' by 1.25". The glass is one single unit, mechanically bonded by a liquid lamination process.
Cradled in a custom steel frame, the 1200 pound Toucan door glides from outside the residence to the installation position.
