What Kind of Camera?

Alright folks, Im going to be the first to get a question answered. Here goes...What kind of camera do you use to photograph your work? I use a Sony Digital Mavica, but cant get good close-up shots. Im making my list for Santa, and a new digital camera is the #1 item. (Im not telling #2 and #3) Any suggestions would be wonderful! Oh, I better add, I need to keep it under $700.00. Darn Santa has a bit of a Scrooge in him.

Hi! I use a Sony Mavica, older version FD-73 most of the pictures here on GlassArtist.org are taken with them...I have no problems up close...but then I have when I tried to use a different background, that might be why I use the tile you see in most of mine...at one time I tried white paper..but a lot of times the camera wouldn't focus on the beads for some reason...I have had success with white..but prefer my tile...I do have another camera with higher pixels that I use but the micro is so much different than what I am used to I have yet to get on a roll taking my everyday eBay pictures with it...so I stick to my mavica for that...my other is a nikon cool pix 3100 which takes awesome family shots and I used it for my daughters wedding and the printing quality was awesome...I have had success taking pix with it for printing, one being in Corina's book and publications and a Lark Book entry that got accepted. But all in all...I just dont like the ease of use as much.
well ya got a novel from me LOL...I have all kinds of wonderful luck with the sony mavica...I am not sure what setting ours is on...Dan set it for me long ago...the pictures come out 641x480 a nice size for uploading to eBay.

NO WAY!!! The sony Digital Mavica FD-73 is exactly what my camera is! Could you ask your husband what he has the camera set at? I monkey around with the settings all the time, try different things, and still have to take each picture and clean it up with Adobe. I dont have a real big use for pictures, but would sure like to have a portfolio of my finished work saved on disk. Another topic,,,Do you have much luck with ebay? I tried it a few times, but personally would rather sell finished work. I remember once I had someone come to me and say they had a TinaBeada bracelet on. I looked at it and almost croaked. Yep, those were my beads, but not my "work". Thats the persnickity part of me I guess... Im a closet perfectionist, and couldnt handle seeing my beads all put together on hemp. Yech! Your work is beautiful...

I have a Sony Mavica FD-91 and have used it for all the pics in my gallery. I'm probably gonna pick up a Canon Digital Rebel in the next few days! :D I also have a 3 light studio strobe lighting kit that I've had for a while now. I've been into photography for about 8 or 9 years which has really helped with taking pics of my glass. I can't hook the Mavica up to the studio lights so I have to use a slave, it's a little box with a bubble "eyeball" on it. The eyeball sees the flash fire from my Mavica and fires all the studio lights at the same time. This works but really makes it hard to control exposure and I really have to play with the images a lot in Photoshop. With this Digital Rebel I'll be able to hook the camera up to the studio lights directly. It should make all the difference in the world.

Hi Tina Same camera! well how bout that LOL...I will ask Dan about the settings...he is working longer hours this week..but I will try to remember...I do use outdoor light...we have a covered back deck and even all year in Oregon the light is usually bright enough to take pictures sometime during a day...direct sun is not good...its more in the shade but near the natural light. I just pegged the perfect spot on our table out there and have a tile.
eBay...we only sell on eBay..and do great...we are silver power sellers and have been for over a year consistantly. We dont do weekend shows or put our beads anywhere else. I found that my beads sold better and for more than my finished jewelry so the jewelry faised out. I make it only for gifts and myself now days.

Hi Tina Well Dan looked at the settings and this is what he told me on Quality its set on Fine On Rec Mode its set on Normal On Flash level its set on Normal on File its set on Normal
I do get very close to the beads when taking pix...and the flash never flashes, if that is of any help...I use outdoor indirect light. Meaning...beads are in the shade...but the bright light is angled just right for the pix so no flash is needed...I get the best true color this way.
Hope all this helps you~

I'm not familiar with that particular model but I use an FD 75. Here are some of my tips that may or may not work with other models: Taking Pix With Sony Mavica FD73 or FD 75
