torches in checked luggage

Just wondering if anyone has flown with a torch in their checked luggage. It says on the TSA site "no gas torches" under "flammable Items"catagory but surely this means torches hooked up to tanks or some other fuel source. If anyone has gone through this please reply.

I usually check mine. but I've been down under the airport with TSA and the cops and I'll never do it again becasue I've seen how they really handle baggage...
as long as the torch isn't hooked up to any tanks or anything, you should be able to carry it on. EXPLAIN to them ahead of time what it is and that it can't be used. They'll send someone over to 'sniff' the lines for gas and then you should be cleared through after that.
My advice would be to go down and talk to them or call ahead of time and get clearence, with a Name and ID #, so you can reference who you spoke with when you actually get there.
