Hello friends of Flameworks,
We still have some spaces available in the Micah Evans "Organic Shaping, Media-blasting, and Surface Decoration" class August 10-12. This class will be an amazing journey into the world of glass art taught by an amazing artist from Miami, Florida.
Workshop Description
In this workshop we will be focusing on design and organic shaping. Using techniques such as hollow cut form and flame carving we will shape hollow vessels out of clear glass and manipulate them to achieve smooth simple shapes. A main goal of this class is to problem solve complex designs with simple shapes and engineering. We will be using oil paints and other pigments to refine our projects and achieve a dramatic presence. Hollow glass experience is a must for this class but experience levels can vary, it is a technique all can benefit from! Be sure to wear clothes you never want to wear again, oil paints can be messy and very permanent.

Micah Evans Biography
Micah Evans is a self taught artist from the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in the Pacific Northwest. He found glass in the late 1990's and hasn't looked back since. Micah has spent the last two years as a resident artist and visiting instructor at the University of Miami. He has had the fortune to be the studio assistant for William Carlson for the last year and a half. William Carlson is widely believed to be one of the founders of the studio glass movement in America. A year focusing on learning and introspection has come to an end and Micah has buried himself in his own work once again. His work is a balance of fluid organic sculpture as well as traditional craft. His new work focuses on tradition; tradition in glass and tradition in family. With his work always changing and evolving a true self-portrait of the ebbs and flows of an artist is evident.
Please give us a call asap if you are interested in taking this class at 512-215-2676 to reserve your spot. Visit our website at www.austinflameworks.com
Have an excellent week and we hope to see you soon.
