i was so worried that you all might have heard this question, at least a million, trillion times..so i checked the site, real careful, to make sure...NOPE...seems no one has bothered you all yet, with this one...

in the movie, the actor, southern boy, goes about, watching for nasty weather, stuffing spikes of metal into the beach, waiting for a lightening strike, to transform the sand, immediately into glass, to form a sculpture.

now, for the record, i don't believe that this technique would ever work in real life, but the sculpture that was supposedly created in this fashion, is something that belongs in my living room.

so, have you seen the movie, seen the sculpture? please know, i've watched the credits, for the movie, and called the blower that was listed there (cannot remember the name, but think "east coast, vermont" maybe?)...they did make all of the glassware, that was shown to be sold in the movies, but not the sculpture.

i've seen some of the work, showcased on this site, and some of the artists may even be able to recreate the effect. it's my hope to find a clear glass piece.

so if any of you have seen the sculpture, know where i might find something similar, and could lend me some direction, i would be eternally grateful.

thanks so much, for hearing me out, and helping if you are able. i'll stand by.

ps...i truly am in awe of all of the craftsman shown here, and their amazing works...your pieces are amazing, such balance, color, and patience shown...i am a crafter myself, but my work is in paper craft, beading (with beads already made), needlework...never would i have the temerity to pick up a torch! i'll stick to the needles and scissors!

thanks again,

Havent seen the movie, but going on that link and what you are talking about sounds like a sandcasted glass sculpture. I would search sandcastings, or sandcasted glass?

Hi - I asked this same question a few months back on the hot glass forums(http://www.glassline.net/forums/cmps_index.php)and Zlao has the answer! Fuulgurites!! Most of them are ugly - there have been a few black ones that look like obsidian near where I live in Nevada but most of them are pretty boring and ugly. I suspect you are right and those in the movie were cast sculpted.
